Theory of Film: Sound Reflection

The article on the sound of film states that the effect of sound in film can not be replicated other than in films with sound since it gives us a picture to use to bounce off of it and give it weight. I follow her logic up until she says that these effects can not be done on stage, the use of sound in live theatre can have the same weight and effect as a film would due to a few things. The biggest carrier of this weight shifts from photos to the actors themselves being able to fill a room with presence thus giving the sound or lack there of weight in the scenario.  When it comes to dramatic silence actors are trained to make conversation without sound giving the exact same effect as a silenced film.
Aside from our disagreements on what can be done in live theatre I understand the message she is trying to convey with the importance of sound in any medium and how it can alter viewers perception of the piece.
