Final Thoughts

I have to admit that I've learned a lot from this experimental film making class. Whenever I signed up for this class I had no idea it was experimental but decided to try it out anyways since I had little to no idea how to create experimentalist films since we only briefly touched on it in 201.

The hearing light, seeing sound project allowed me to escape the conventional mind of narrative and documentary film making and allow my creativity to flow. During the sound recording and photography I received a more detailed instructions on how to use the equipment that 201 didn't provide for us. Being able to shoot with real film was very nostalgic but it was more frustrating than I hoped it would be.

The self portrait assignment was interesting assignment in that I tried to allow my creativity to flow. I liked how that everyone had different idea of expression our selves creating diverse films. I could see myself doing a project like this in my free time creating capsules of portions of my life.

The live installation was a lot of fun. Being able to create an environment around taking a bubble bath was possibly the coolest film I got to be a part of. However during shooting the water was so hot that when I exited the tub I had a light burn from my hip to my feet.

I feel that the largest thing I learned form this class is to think outside of the box to create something new rather than the rinse and repeat methods we seemed to get put into us. I liked working with as little or as much as we could gather and then having to make the most out of it. I felt that my peers let me try producing more and I could get a better feel for if this is what I want to do whenever I graduate.

  1. I'm glad you got to take this class Will. Having a Producer in the mix is always helpful. It allows people to understand that even experimental film has logistics that need to be considered and managed. Good work helping that conversation to happen in class.
